Who has played the most Nedbank Cup semifinals?

Mamelodi Sundowns are on course for a remarkable 10th Nedbank Cup semifinal in 18 years if they can win in their quarterfinal clash against as yet unknown opponents next month.
The Brazilians, who are four-time winners of the Nedbank Cup since 2008, have already been to the last-4 in nine of the 17 previous seasons, or 53% of the time, which is a remarkable show of consistency.

Orlando Pirates, who have won back-to-back titles, are next on the list with six semifinal appearances, all of which they have won. They will be hoping to make it seven and three in a row this year as they travel to SuperSport United.
There are a trio of sides next on the list with five semifinals appearances. Two you might expect, one perhaps not.
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are there having gone on to lift the trophy on a single occasion in 2013. Chiefs could add to their tally as they travel to Stellenbosch FC in the quarterfinals.

SuperSport United will go to six semifinal appearances if they beat Pirates at home in their quarterfinal. They have made the semifinal on five previous occasions and gone on to win all but one (against Ajax Cape Town in 2015), claiming the trophy in 2012, 2016 and 2017.
They are seeking a semifinal place for the first time in eight years though having had a lean run in the Nedbank Cup.

The other club to have played in five semifinals is the now defunct Free State Stars, who suffered four losses at that stage of the competition in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2016, before finally claiming victory against Chiefs in 2018.

Stars went on to lift the trophy that year after they beat Maritzburg United (now Durban City) in the final.
Chippa United have been to four semifinals in the past but will not add to that tally this year. They reached the final in 2021 but lost to TTM (now Marumo Gallants).
AmaZulu made three semifinal appearances between 2008 and 2012 but haven’t managed one since, while Baroka hold the unique distinction of having made the last-4 as a third-tier, second-tier and first-tier club. They have yet to reach a final.
BidVest Wits are the other club to have played in three semi-finals, lifting the trophy in 2010.

Among the other quarterfinalists this year, Stellenbosch FC have been to back-to-back semifinals but not yet reached the decider, while Durban City have also been to that stage of the competition twice before, advancing to the final in 2018.
Marumo Gallants have also been to the semifinals twice and lifted the trophy in 2021.
Among the more surprising names on the semifinal list are Pretoria Callies, United FC and Vasco da Gama.
