Sekhukhune United will be appearing in the Nedbank Cup final for the first time when they take on Orlando Pirates in the 2023 decider at Loftus Versfeld on May 27.

Here are some of the key numbers behind the Limpopo club’s impressive campaign to date.

Most minutes

390 – Two players have featured in every minute of the campaign to date for Sekhukhune – defenders Daniel Cardoso and Edwin Gyimah. They have formed an excellent defensive pairing that has conceded only once in the club’s four games in the Nedbank Cup this season.

Top scorers

2 – Nigerian forward Chibuike Ohizu, Zambian midfielder Roderick Kabwe and forward Vusimuzi Mncube have all scored twice for Sekhukhune in this year's competition. That also makes them the club’s all-time leading scorers in the competition.

Most substitute appearances

2 – Veteran Sibusiso Vilakazi and Trésor Yamba have been the most used players off the bench so far in this campaigning, having twice entered games. Neither of them have started a game, but have been used as impact players by coach Brandon Truter.

Oldest and youngest players used

36 – At the age of 36, Ivory Coast international goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare is the oldest player used by Sekhukhune in the Nedbank Cup this season, starting in three of the four games. He was replaced for the penalty shoot-out win over Stellenbosch FC in the semifinals, and was also not used in the Last 16 victory over Cape Town Spurs.

23 – Winger Elias Mokwana is the youngest player used in the Nedbank Cup by Sekhukhune this season, starting the ties against Chippa United (quarterfinals) and Stellenbosch Fc (semifinals). It is only his second season as a professional having joined Sekhukhune from second-tier Platinum City Rovers at the start of this campaign.

Team goals scored

10 – Sekhukhune have been the second highest scorers in the Nedbank Cup so far this season behind Stellenbosch FC (11 goals). They have the biggest win following their 6-0 success over fourth-tier Liver Brothers in the Last 32, and then scored two each against Cape Town Spurs (Last 16) and Chippa United (quarterfinals). They were held scoreless by Stellies in the semifinals, winning 4-3 on penalties.

Team goals conceded

1 – Sekhukhune have only conceded the single goal this term, which was scored by Chippa United forward Etiosa Ighodaro in the quarterfinals. The big Nigerian netted with a header, but otherwise the Limpopo club have managed to keep their opponents at bay.

Disciplinary

5 yellows – Sekhukhune have been exceptionally disciplined in this year’s campaign with only five yellow cards in four games, or 390 minutes of football. What’s more, two players have each been booked twice – Nyiko Mobbie and Roderick Kabwe – so only three have actually gone into the book. The other is Edwin Gyimah.
