Kaizer Chiefs defeated Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the final of the 2025 Nedbank Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban to bring down the curtain on another thrilling season of South Africa’s most prestigious knockout competition.
We round up the numbers on the campaign.

1 – This was the first Nedbank Cup final since 2008 to feature Soweto rivals Chiefs and Pirates.

1 – Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is the first Tunisian tactician to lift South Africa’s FA Cup in its 54-year history. He is in fact also the first African coach from outside of South Africa to have that honour.

2 – It is a second Nedbank Cup title for Chiefs after they claimed their maiden trophy in the 2013 edition by beating SuperSport United 1-0 at the same Durban venue.

4 – Tshegofatso Mabasa (Pirates) and Pule Mmodi (Chiefs) finished as the leading scorers in this year’s competition with four goals each.

4 – Chiefs’ final win means they will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season. It will be their fourth appearances in the competition, their last in the 2018-19 campaign when they reached the third round.

7 – Pirates made a record seventh appearance in the Nedbank Cup final since 2008. They beat Black Leopards (3-1 in 2011), BidVest Wits (3-1 in 2014), Sekhukhune United (2-1 in 2023) and Mamelodi Sundowns (2-1 in 2024) but lost twice to SuperSport United (3-2 in 2016 and 4-1 in 2017) and now Chiefs (2-1 in 2025).

7 – The most goals scored in a Nedbank Cup encounter this season was seven, which happened on two occasions. TS Galaxy defeated third-tier CR Vasco da Gama 7-0, which was also the biggest win of the campaign, and Mamelodi Sundowns beat third-tier Sibanye Golden Stars 5-2. Both were in the Last 32.

8 – This year’s final was the eighth time in 18 deciders that both teams have found the back of the net.

14 – Chiefs scored 14 goals in their five games in the campaign, the most of any side. They conceded three times.

15 – Pirates coach Jose Riveiro finally lost a Nedbank Cup game at the 15th time of asking. His record, as he leaves the club, reads 12 wins, two draws and one defeat.

67 – There were 67 different goal-scorers in the Nedbank Cup this season to go with two own goals from Bulelani Nikani (Polokwane City) and Brandon Theron (Lamontville Golden Arrows)
