Galaxy of stars thump Vasco da Gama 7-0 to advance to Nedbank Cup Last 16

The 2019 winners TS Galaxy cruised into the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a 7-0 victory over Western Cape ABC Motsepe League side Vasco da Gama at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday, ensuring an away meeting with Durban City in the next stage.
Galaxy were 2-0 up inside five minutes, and 4-0 ahead by the 33rd minute as they blitzed their opponents early on and played out the remainder of the game in comfort to record the biggest win in the club’s history.
Bosnian striker Dzenan Zajmovic netted their opening two goals, his second a clever back-heel from 10 yards. He now has five goals in his last eight games as he emerges as a key attacking weapon this season.
Keagan Dolly scored his first goal for Galaxy after joining earlier this season, his last goal for any club coming almost two years ago when he netted for Kaizer Chiefs against Stellenbosch FC.
The 32-year-old will be delighted to be back among the goals, having been a runner-up with Ajax Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup a decade ago.
Marks Munyai netted Galaxy’s fourth for his first goal in four years, since he scored against former side Black Leopards in 2021.
It was his first ever cup goal and only the sixth of a professional career that has seen him play 268 games in the last 11 years.
Thokozani Sibanyoni scored the first goal of his professional career for the fifth, tapping in at the back post as the 20-year-old striker broke his duck. He added a second shortly afterwards and will hope they are the first of many in the coming years.
New signing Damir Sovsic from Croatia added the seventh as he also scored his first for the club. It was a lovely finish with the outside of the boot.
Before the game the draw for the Last 16 was held and Galaxy were paired with second-tier Durban City.
Orlando Pirates will host Baroka FC, while Kaizer Chiefs welcome Chippa United.
Mamelodi Sundowns will face third-tier opposition for the second round in a row as they host Limpopo’s Mpheni Home Defenders.
AmaZulu go to Marumo Gallants in an all-Premiership affair, while the winner of the tie between Royal AM and Milford FC, which has yet to be determined, host Sekhukhune United.
Stellenbosch FC welcome Polokwane City and SuperSport United are at home to Cape Town Spurs.
