Maritzburg warn local clubs off Nedbank Cup heroes

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids says the country’s top clubs can forget about signing his Nedbank Cup heroes in the next transfer window.
The young side has been a revelation this season in reaching the Nedbank Cup final against Free State Stars on May 19, which has drawn plenty of attention to their players.

The likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu, Lebohang Maboe, Bandile Shandu and Fortune Makaringe have all become hot property, but Davids said the club will only consider overseas offers for their players.

“After our initial meeting with the chairman [Farook Kadodia] we were assured that selling players locally will not happen but if European clubs are coming for our players we won’t really stand in their way,” Davids told reporters.

"But none of them will be leaving to any of the big three in the country fortunately. Our players want to go to Europe and we will do anything in our power to assist them during the off-season.

“If you have players who have these dreams and ambitions to go to Europe it’s no use selling them to the clubs they don’t want to go to.

"Players dreams are important and I definitely think a few of them have the possibility to go to Europe so we will help facilitate that.”

Victory in the Nedbank Cup final would certainly raise the profile of the players even further.
