Ke Yona star Modiba continues to shine31/01/2018
Nedbank Ke Yona Team player Aubrey Modiba has been a star performer for SuperSport United this season, a continuation of his rapid rise to the top of the local game. While the Nedbank Cup champions may be finding life tougher this season, the versatile Modiba has continues to perform week in, week out, leading to reported interest from Turkish giants Besiktas. The 22-year-old has been a real asset to coach Eric Tinkler, not just because of his quality, but because he is able to feature in a number of positions, especially as a let wing-back or an out-and-out winger. The attitude that I have plays a big role in how I adapt to both positions, Modiba was quoted by IOL.
Wherever I play, I don¹t complain. I just make sure that I put 100 percent for the team, because I like winning, creating chances for my teammates and scoring. I like helping the team as much as I can. I think that I have been good wherever I have played. I make sure that I switch my mind on to focus on whichever position I am fielded in that day. If the coach tells me to play left-back today, I need to think about it and psych myself up for that so that I can deliver for the team.He hints though that playing in a more advanced role is what he enjoys the most - and he has backed that up with seven goals so far this season. Playing as an attacking player has worked for me. I have been creating more chances and I am scoring more. Even the confidence is coming in terms of how I perform in front of goals, even though I should have done better in other games. Modiba is sure to feature when SuperSport travel to Bloemfontein Celtic in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 on February 11.
The side have not been in good form ahead of the defence of their Nedbank Cup title, but Modiba says they have full confidence in Tinkler. We believe in the coach. He is a winner, a motivator and he plans very well. Our downfall is not converting the chances that we create. We will bounce back. Modiba was part of the Nedbank Ke Yona Team that competed in 2014, and has also played for Mpumalanga Black Aces and Cape Town City in the PSL.
