Injury scare for FS Stars ahead of Nedbank Cup final16/05/2018
Free State Stars have received an injury scare ahead of Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final against Maritzburg United after full-back Patrick Phungwayo limped out of training.
The experienced Phungwayo, who already has two Nedbank Cup final appearances behind him, has been a rock at the back for Stars this season and is a key part of their counter-attack style as he moves up and down the wing.
He had to be helped from the field during training on Tuesday though, with coach Luc Eymael unsure over his immediate prognosis.
“I hope he will be available to play. I don’t know exactly now,” Eymael told reporters. “It’s a knock. The ankle did not twist, so it’s good. He will have treatment and I think he will be available.
“Tomorrow he will train alone. It’s painful, but it’s not dangerous.”
Phungwayo lifted the Nedbank Cup with BidVest Wits in 2010, but was on the losing side for Orlando Pirates in last years’ decider against SuperSport United.
He moved to Stars at the start of this season and has made 30 starts in all competitions, including each of Stars’ four matches in the Nedbank Cup campaign to date.
Tickets for the decider are available at TicketPro outlets nationwide, including Edgars, Edgars active, Edgars connect, Jet, Jet Mart, Postnet and CAN.
They are selling at R40 for adults and R15 for children under 12, and can also be purchased online at TicketPro (www.ticketpro.co.za).
Aside from the football, there will be plenty more entertainment on the day, with the match to kick-off at 19h00.
